Comments policy
The Rider News encourages readers to engage in civil conversation with others in the online community. Comments that are submitted are not posted to the site immediately. They go into a queue to be moderated and may take several hours to be reviewed before being approved or deleted. We will never edit or alter your comments, but we do reserve the right to remove comments that violate our comments code of conduct.
Comments Code of Conduct
Comments that harass, degrade, intimidate or are hateful toward an individual or group of individuals on the basis of religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, age or disability are not permitted. Comments that are unlawful, threatening, defamatory, pornographic or libelous in nature, or that are intended to be personally insulting or invasive of another’s privacy are also not permitted.”
Letter to the Editor policy
The Rider News serves as a public forum for student expression and welcomes letters to the editor from all members of the university community. Letters must include the writer’s telephone number and e-mail address for verification. Letters that constitute personal attacks on individuals or groups are unacceptable. We reserve the right to edit letters to the editor for length, clarity, accuracy, grammar and libel. Letters must be appropriate in terms of taste and civility. Brevity is encouraged. All decisions are at the sole discretion of the editorial board, which may reject any letter. Send to The Rider News via e-mail (ridernews@rider.edu), campus mail, or hand deliver to Ridge House. All letters must be received by midnight on the Monday preceding publication.
Web Content Policy
The Rider News does not remove online archived content. If an inaccuracy is suspected, a formal complaint must be filed (see procedure below). If content is found to be inaccurate, a notice will be posted on the article, editorial, photo or graphic. All decisions are left to the sole discretion of the editorial board.
If the article, editorial, photo or graphic was published less than one year ago, complainant should follow the outlined procedure:
- Contact the executive editor with a telephone number, e-mail address, date and headline of the piece in question, and the suspected inaccuracies.
- If the article, editorial, photo or graphic involves criminal charges and no follow-up story was published, complainant must show proof of expungement in order for an updated notice to be posted to the content in question.
- If the inaccuracies are found to be valid, a notice shall be posted on the content in question.
If the article, editorial, photo or graphic was published more than one year ago, complainant should follow the outlined procedure:
- Contact the executive editor with a telephone number, e-mail address, date and headline of the piece in question, and the suspected inaccuracies.
- Complainant must show proof (ex: expungement papers) in order for a notice to be posted on the article, editorial, photo or graphic in question.
*If an article regarding police activity with students, faculty or administrators runs in The Rider News, there must be a follow-up piece.
